I just returned from a trip using the X-Air Backpack and it performed flawlessly. The material is fantastic and the pack is incredibly lightweight. The internal organization is one of the best I’ve ever used because it’s just what you need without being excessive to the point of not knowing where items are located. The pack is so comfortable and the fact that it stands up when placed on the ground brings a smile to my face. This pack, along with the incredible customer service from Gary and the Waterfield team, is simply outstanding.
The front pleated pocket is the X-Air Backpack's secret power. Before we get to that, lets talk about the obvious awesomeness. It's light. When the box arrived it felt empty. You have yourself a waterproof bag thanks to the VX21 construction and waterproof YKK zippers. The back office is perfect for most tech needs with 4 gear pockets, 2 pen pockets, padded laptop sleeve, and large pocket for any size iPad or even another sleeved laptop. The main compartment is ample space for a week's worth of clothing for me. Now let's get to what ultimately sold me on the X-Air Backpack. The front pleated pocket is deceptive large without adding bulk to the bag. It has 6 pockets of varying sizes and two pen pockets. Sure, you can put your hoodie or jacket in there, but my primary use for it is as a garage for a smaller EDC backpack. My X-Air goes in the overhead bin and I pull out the smaller backpack for my "under the seat needs" and when I arrive at my destination, my X-Air remains in my room, and I have my EDC backpack for my walkabouts. I love this mothership and shuttlecraft theme.
Love this design and backpack overall. Price is definitely up there but what you're getting is premium and worth every cent!! It's also built here in the US not somewhere else. So I appreciate that and will comtiue to buy more products from Waterfield!!
Outstanding product. Insanely functional. Awesomely beautiful.
It does remind me however how much I tend to overpack
Very light weight but flimsy. Does not have the feel of the quality of your other products I have purchased.
WaterField Designs X-Air Backpack review – the eagle has landed
The Gadgeteer - December 27, 2023
“WaterField Designs is building upon the success of the X-Air Duffel with the new X-Air Backpack, and it may just be your new favorite travel bag.”
Design details
WORK FROM ANYWHERE
We designed the X-Air Travel Backpack so you can easily get work done while on the road, especially in tight spaces. Three compartments keep your gear easily accessible: the back for your mobile office, the middle for clothing, and the front for travel essentials.
The front compartment is highly organized with plenty of pockets to keep your frequently-accessed items nearby.
The rear mobile office compartment has a padded laptop pocket, a tablet pocket, and additional pockets to organize accessories.
DETAILS MATTER
Keep dangling straps at bay by slipping them onto a discreet strap retainer included specifically for this purpose.
Your shoulder strap and hip strap can be neatly packed away until they're ready for use. A top leather handle lets you carry the backpack vertically, and two handles on either side lets you carry it horizontally.
CONVENIENT CLAMSHELL OPENING
The luggage compartment of the X-Air Travel Backpack has a clamshell opening, making it very to easy pack and un-pack. The gold liner makes it easy to see, and the adjustable straps keep your packed items in place during transit.
In a pinch, your backpack can also act as a convenient storage compartment for your clothes when your room is tight on space.
DURABLE AND LIGHT
We chose the X-Pac® laminate textile for the X-Air Collection because of its durability, water resistance, and light weight. Specifically designed for outdoor and rugged use, this material has an impressive strength-to-weight ratio.
The X-Pac® adds structure without bulk, making it the perfect material for the X-Air Backpack. The backpack keeps its shape when empty, and the material doesn't add much weight when full.
THE X-AIR COLLECTION
Meet the X-Air Collection, a line of lightweight, feature-rich carry-on bags for people who travel with their tech.
Made from durable, waterproof X-Pac® material, each piece in the collection supports travelers throughout their journey with thoughtful organization for easy access to essentials.
made in usa
We're proud to offer American-made gear built for the long haul. All our products are designed and made in our San Francisco workshop, where rent is high, labor expensive, and competition intense. We wouldn't go anywhere else.
